Tubing
Vinyl
Tubing - This black tubing is smooth
on the inside and outside. It is used in small
water features and in-pond applications. Statuary
and Ultra pumps use vinyl tubing. Because
it can kink, it is not recommended for use under
rocks or underground.
Kink
Free Tubing - this black tubing is ribbed
on the outside and smooth on the inside. It's
specially designed with a spiral ceramic reinforcement
for enough rigidity to prevent kinking, yet
it's flexible enough to bend around corners.
Ultra and high volume pumps can use this type
of tubing.
Both
vinyl and kink free tubing are often the choice
of homeowners, because of their ease of use.
Fittings for these two types fit on the inside
of the tubing and are held in place with a tightened
hose clamp. This makes it easy to remove a fitting
later if necessary. The photos show attaching
a fitting:
PVC
Tubing - This type of black flexible
tubing is reinforced. It can be buried, but
it's less flexible than kink free. It's used
for large applications using high volume pumps.
It's the choice of professional installers.
